I asked a similar question earlier but I need to put it in another catagory. Im taking a reading comp test today for a job with UP. I know I will pass cause reading is my strong suit. If I get hired, which one of these jobs should I shoot for in my training class?

An entry level train person may be immediately assigned to switch person, brake person, or conductor assignments. A train crew member may also be required to qualify as a Remote Control Operator (RCO) or Locomotive Engineer.
Actually, I only have to take the one reading test and a physical. Unless the lady on the phone lied to me! If I get hired, the first 14 weeks of employment is classroom and outdoor training. I know about the background check, I dont have anything to hide. Im just trying to find out which one of these jobs is best.

Bill asked:

I know it depends on the position. I’m interested in ultimately becoming a locomotive engineer. Also, i know you typically start in a lower position such as a brakeman or switchman and work your way up. Just curious about how it affects the home life and how demanding the schedule can be. Is it just very long days or many nights away from home.? Thanks for any help
